Nor'easter causes flight cancellations

HOUSTON - Airlines cancelled hundreds of flights Wednesday and Thursday to and from the three big airports in the New York City area.

By midday Wednesday, United had cancelled all of its flights to the area from Bush Intercontinental Airport for the day.

Only a few flights from the NYC airports arrived in Houston Wednesday afternoon. Most were cancelled.

"Everybody at the airport was real helpful, but you could tell that everyone from the counter agents to the passengers were a little tense," said Kevin Vincent, a passenger.

Vincent flew to Houston from Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey. He told Local 2 he feared he might get stuck in the snow.

"You see, I have a coat and a sweater. So it's a lot warmer. You guys got it great over here."

Snow was falling from the skies when Vincent left Newark. When he arrived in Houston, it was sunny and 80 degrees.

Ticket agents said most passengers made other travel arrangements before coming to the airport to find cancelled flights. They said airlines are planning more cancellations through midday Thursday, so travelers should plan accordingly. Most airlines are allowing passengers to change travel plans without paying a penalty.
