Newsmakers for July 9: Reps Brady and Green on impeachment, healthcare and more

HFD Union president discusses lawsuit against city

HOUSTON – It’s a call for impeachment that may not go anywhere, but Rep. Al Green (D-Houston) says President Trump has committed offenses worthy of such consideration and that this GOP Congress would have no hesitation under different circumstance.

“I believe that if the same standard would be applied if President Obama committed the same acts, I think we would have impeachment and you wouldn’t have to have a single Democrat to vote for it,” Green said.

Green said the issue of health care is high on his list of concerns and that Americans deserve insurance they know will be there when they need it.

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Houston) is the Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and worked closely with President Trump.

Brady said some of the tweets the President uses are done with a purpose for bills on issues like health care.

“He’s trying to prod congress into delivering on what’s been a seven-year promise to repeal a plan that we don’t think works for the American public,” Brady said. “And put into place something that does work in health care.”

Brady told Khambrel Marshall that impeachment talk is part of a continuing effort to delegitimize the Trump Presidency.

Much more from both Congressmen on partisanship’s role in lack of progress, foreign policy and more.

And

Houston firefighters have had only a 3 percent pay raise through the last six years. Local 341’s president Patrick “Marty” Lancton says it’s been a hardship and that a lawsuit was filed after the City refused to let independent arbitration decide what’s fair.

”One would think if you’re worried about a 3rd party coming in…that maybe somebody is not in the best position,” Lancton said. “What we’ve identified is simply we just want what’s fair. If they say what we’re claiming is not right, we’re ok with it.”
