New tip reopens search for Minnesota woman Sarah Cruz

Searchers look for woman missing since 2007

ROSENBERG, Texas - Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies said about 50 people were searching a rural property in the 100 block of Rustic Lane north of Rosenberg on Thursday after a new tip surfaced surrounding a woman's 2007 disappearance.

A new Crime Stoppers tip about Minnesota woman Sarah Cruz's 2007 disappearance led investigators to the spot along the banks of the Brazos River.

A woman who said her family owns the property, said she did knot know Cruz and had never heard of her.

Detectives said that Cruz and another woman from Minnesota were living with two men in the area in 2007. The other woman went back to Minnesota, but Cruz has not been seen since.

One of the men the women were living with recently died and the other is in jail on an unrelated charge, investigators said.

Detectives said passing time and changing life events have prompted people to give them more information about Cruz's disappearance.

A Fort Bend County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Haenel said the search focused on five acres on the Brazos River.

"Some of it's thicket. Trees with brush underneath. Another area is open area. Sandy soil in some cases. I don't believe there's any marshy area along those lines. It's a trying set of circumstances in some areas," Haenel said.

Searchers are expected to be back Friday morning. The searching wrapped up about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS.
