You may be using apps like Foursquare or Yelp to get deals when you check in on your smartphone. Soon all you may need is your face.
A new app could soon start sending you deals to your favorite restaurants and stores just by scanning your face. It is called facedeals.
When users of the app walk into a store, a camera scans their face. Facial recognition software then matches that scan with the person's Facebook profile, and a coupon gets sent to that person's smartphone, based on their online interests.
Tim McMullen is the CEO of Red Pepper, the company developing the facedeal app.
"People are checking in using Facebook and Foursquare already. We're just making it more intuitive for them to check in. The platform's being developed to being as secure as any other platform you'd give information to," said McMullen.
Security measures include, using a double-opt-in system meaning you have to confirm your consent multiple times. You also have to grant the application access to your Facebook profile.
The project is not affiliated with Facebook. Red Pepper says it is still testing the product and seeking funding before the app will be available to the public.
