New details in Sandra Bland death investigation

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – The Greater Houston Coalition for Justice (GHCFJ) is holding a press conference asking for an independent investigation in the death of Sandra Bland.  Bland, 28, was found dead in a Waller County Jail cell, and many question her official cause of death, which has been ruled a suicide.  Watch the livestream scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Click2Houston.com.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office released video Monday they say proves no one entered Bland's jail cell until the moment she was found dead.

The July 13 recordings of activity in the hallway near her cell show officers conducting two security checks on Bland in the course of 48 minutes starting around 6 a.m.

Just after 7 a.m. a male officer makes a third check on Bland. The sheriff's office says that officer spoke with Bland and she told him, "I am good".

At 7:55 a.m. the sheriff's office says Bland used a cell intercom to ask jailers about making a phone call.

There isn't another in-person check on Bland until 8:58 a.m. when a female officer checking to see if Bland wanted recreation time looks through the cell window and sees the 28-year-old with a trash bag around her neck hanging from a partition in the cell.

The Sheriff's Office says in the wake of Bland's death, trash bags have now been removed from all cells at the jail and inmates are being checked on hourly.
