Pregnant woman braves hurricane to deliver baby

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A South Carolina mother braved rain, wind, and flood water to get to the hospital in time for her delivery during Hurricane Matthew.

Lestlis Matthews went into labor in the midst of Hurricane Matthew. She immediately called EMS but they warned her there would be a delay because of the rising flood waters. Matthews was not willing to risk the wait, so she started walking to the hospital on her own.

"Walking through the water was fine. Any mother will go through extraordinary measures to make sure that their child is safe and I had to to do, what I had to do," she said.

She was picked up after walking nearly five blocks.

Most of her family had evacuated, so she was alone for most of the delivery.
