(CNN) - A motorist and a passenger appeared to be slumped over and asleep in a Tesla driving on a Massachusetts highway, CBS News reported.
Both looked hunched over when captured on a video that was posted to Twitter by Dakota Randall on Sunday.
“Some guy literally asleep at the wheel on the Mass Pike (great place for it). Teslas are sick, I guess?” he tweeted.
Randall tried to wake them by honking but it didn’t work, he told CBS Boston. “It was just so strange and baffling,” he said. “I thought I saw somebody asleep at the wheel but I wasn’t sure so I did a double-take. Sure enough, there was somebody with his head right between his legs.”
Massachusetts State Police told CBS Boston that there is no law against falling asleep behind the wheel of a self-driving car.
But Tesla told CBS that its autopilot features require “active driver supervision” and do not make cars fully autonomous. The driver cannot abdicate responsibility, the company said.
