Movie theater purse snatching caught on camera

HOUSTON – Police need help identifying and finding a man who robbed a woman outside a Kingwood movie theater.

Houston police said a 48-year-old woman was talking on her cellphone outside the Starplex Cinemas in the 300 block of Northpark Drive about 6 p.m. on July 10.

"I was standing there, talking on the phone and he tackled me from behind. I was not paying attention and he's a big guy," victim Gabriela Amber said.

Amber was thrown to the ground and suffered injuries to her stomach, arms and knees.

The attacker took Amber's purse, police said. Amber is an accountant from Mexico City and in town on a work visa. She said she had her work papers, passport, keys and wallet in her purse.

"It was in the middle of the day," Officer David Williamson said. "He showed no regard for anybody else around the area. We're worried that he might do it again."

The man then ran to a red Ford Mustang with pinstripes and fled, investigators said. Witnesses said the car had a partial license plate number of BHR.

The man was described as white, in his mid 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds with a goatee. He was last seen wearing a light blue plaid shirt, tan cargo shorts, high-top basketball sneakers and a baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
