HOUSTON - A man is dead after he lost control of his motorcycle in northwest Houston.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on the North Loop near T.C. Jester.

Officials said a motorcyclist was speeding when he lost control, hit a concrete barrier and was tossed from the bike.

The motorcyclist died at the scene.

During the crash, the motorcycle's fuel tank fell off and a car traveling behind ran over it. The fuel tank got lodged underneath the car and sparked a fire.

Officials said the driver of the car was able to stop and get out safely before the vehicle became engulfed with flames.

The westbound lanes of the North Loop were closed for several hours while emergency crews were on scene.
