Unrestrianed child ejected from car in rollover crash

Mother faces child endangerment charges

HOUSTON – A woman is facing child endangerment charges after her 5-year-old son was ejected from a car Friday in a crash on Highway 290.

The crash was reported just after midnight on Highway 290 at 34th Street.

Investigators said Ashley Malancon, who was driving a car, and a pickup truck driver were traveling along the inbound lanes of the highway when the truck entered Malancon's blind spot. She tried to switch lanes and hit the truck, police said.

The crash caused Malancon's car to spin around and roll over, ejecting her son from the vehicle, police said. Investigators said the child was not in a safety seat nor wearing a seat belt.

He was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital. He is expected to be OK.

No one else was injured in the crash.
