Moody Gardens to kick off Shark University Week

There will be shark theme activities like arts and crafts, nightly premieres of Discovery Channel's newest programs and a special viewing of the movie Jaws

HOUSTON – Moody Gardens will be kicking off its Shark University Week soon. The goal is to educate, inform and break down misconceptions of sharks.

There are 50 sharks at Moody Gardens including those native to the Gulf and Caribbean.

Roy Drinnen, an assistant curator of fishes at Moody Gardens, works closely with the sharks. He said every shark in the aquarium has a unique personality.

Shark University Week starts on August 4 and runs through August 10. There will be plenty of shark theme activities like arts and crafts, nightly premieres of Discovery Channel's newest programs and a special viewing of the movie Jaws on the largest screen in Texas.

You will also be able to see live shark feedings and watch biologists dive into the one million gallon Caribbean tank with dozens of sharks circling around them.

The cost for Shark University Week is included in a day pass and part of the aquarium admission. The Discovery Channel viewings are free. The Jaws movie costs $10.95.
