Mom surprises son in elf suit; KPRC reporter makes mad dash to plane after live shot

HOUSTON – Daniel Sosa had been away from his mother for months, but finally made it home Thursday morning after being deployed overseas.

His mother surprised him in an elf suit and it didn't disappoint.

"It feels great, I missed my whole family. I don't know to say, feels good to be back," said Sosa.

Sosa flew from California but his flight was diverted to Austin because of dense fog in Houston. Those issues weren't a problem after the mother and son were finally connected.

And that wasn't the only surprise KPRC 2 found at the airport Thursday morning.

Ray McLain just flew in from Hawaii to surprise his parents for the holidays. He knew their reactions would be mixed.

"Probably crying and excited hopefully," McLain said.

McClain tricked his parents, making them believe he would not be able to make it home for the holidays.

"I told them that I didn't have enough leave days and I didn't have enough money to come home so I told her I would come home later this year," he said.

Overall, travel at both Bush and Hobby airports went smoothly and it seems most people are just excited to get home in time for the holidays.

There were a handful of reported delays to and from the cities, including Atlanta, due to weather but like always, airline suggest passengers check flight status before showing up to the airport and give yourself plenty of time to get through security.
