Mom facing charges in case of missing 3-year-old child

Investigators say the woman told them the child died of an illness

HOUSTON - A mother is behind bars and facing a criminal investigation as officials try to track down her missing 3-year-old girl.

Investigators say Sabrina Deleon's little girl hasn't been seen since 2012. An investigation began several months ago when Deleon got into a car crash in Chambers County.

According to investigators, Deleon's 6-year-old daughter was hurt in that crash because she wasn't properly restrained.

CPS officials got involved and started asking questions about all of Deleon's three children. Authorities say that's when Deleon's story changed several times.

A CPS spokesperson says when investigators first asked questions about the 3-year-old girl, Deleon told them she was living in Mexico. CPS says they were never able to locate the girl or get proof of that story, and that's when they got suspicious.

Deputies arrested Deleon at her southeast Houston apartment in late June, and they say that's when she started to talk.

According to sheriff's deputies, Deleon reportedly told them that her 3-year-old daughter got sick and died in 2012. Investigators say Deleon told them she then dumped the child's body in the trash.

Authorities say they're pursuing more charges on Deleon, including injury to a child and tampering with evidence.
