Missing man's accused killer arrested, charged

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - A man whom investigators say is responsible for the death of a man reported missing in July in League City has been arrested and charged.

Derrick Dwayne Fields is accused of killing 24-year-old Antonio Martins. He was charged with murder by the Galveston County District Attorney's Office.

Fields, 33, was arrested Friday in the 11800 block of Dickinson Road.

According to the League City Police Department, the collaboration of detectives, support by Martins' family and the efforts of multiple investigative agencies led to Field's arrest.

More than 50 volunteers from Texas Equusearch scoured a 5 to 6-mile area in League City in August, looking for Martins.

Martin's family feared foul play when his 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck was found abandoned and with a dead battery at the intersection of Carefree Drive and Candlewood

Fields' bond is set at $750,000. Because the investigation is ongoing, no other details are available, investigators said.
