HOUSTON – A plan to create a temporary homeless shelter on METRO property near downtown Houston moved forward Thursday with a vote by the agency’s board.
METRO board members voted to allow the agency to enter into an agreement with the city of Houston that would use part of a bus facility along McKee Street and Buffalo Bayou to be used as a temporary outdoor shelter.
City officials said the 5,000 square-foot space would include professional management, 24-hour security and support services for the homeless.
One board member called approval of the plan “almost a no brainer.”
