Mayoral hopefuls debate ahead of runoff election

HOUSTON – Hoping to take the seat as the next mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner and Bill King took to the podiums Friday morning.

Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston hosted a breakfast at Crowne Plaza at NRG Stadium on Kirby Drive that featured the two in a debate.

No candidate won a majority vote in the Nov. 3 elections, making it necessary for a runoff. The date of the runoff election is set for Dec. 12.

Of the 13 candidates to appear on the November ballot Turner and King were the top two. Turner walked away with 32 percent of the votes while King garnered 25 percent.

Early voting runs from Dec. 2 through Dec. 8.
