CONROE, Texas – A man who was found guilty last week of aggravated assault against a public servant has been sentenced to 99 years in prison.
Police said they attempted to make a traffic stop on Christopher Ryan Hatton, 28, on Jan. 3. 2016 in the 1600 block of I-45 N, but as he pulled over in a parking lot he immediately got out of his vehicle and ran.
Police said an officer chased Hatton until he tripped and fell, at which time he ordered him to remain on the ground. Hatton tried to get up, but the officer pushed him back to the ground. Hatton then pulled a gun from his torso area and shot at the officer, police said.
Hatton was able to get up and run, but police quickly located him and arrested him.
A jury that convicted Hatton of first-degree felony aggravated assault of a public servant took just 40 minutes to deal a verdict of a 99-year prison sentence.

"I said, 'You shot at me,'" the officer said in court. "At that time, he looked up at me and we locked eyes. The look on his face was, 'I can't believe I missed you.' That's when I said 'yes, I'm still here.'"
Hatton, who will not be eligible for parole until he is 58, was also dealt a $10,000 fine.
