Man wants stolen dog back

HOUSTON - It's one thing to steal a man's belongings, but it takes a truly heartless criminal to steal a man's dog.

"I'd just like to get my dog back," Will Baker said after he discovered that his truck had been stolen from an east Houston parking lot with his dog, Ace, still in it.

Baker said he stopped at the Harbor Freight Tool store in the 1000 block of Federal Road Thursday to pick up a few items before heading out on a weekend hunting trip.

"I was literally in there probably less than 20 minutes," Baker said.  "When I walked out I was really in disbelief.  My dog is the first thing I thought of."

Baker said that his 12 year-old black lab was in a travel kennel inside the bed of the truck when it was taken.

"I've hunted with him 25 to 30 times a year for the last 11 years," Baker said.  "He and I spent a lot of time together.  He's been a part of my life and now he's gone."

Also stolen was thousands of dollars worth of hunting equipment and electronics, but Baker said that's not what he's worried about.

"That's what we pay our insurance premiums for, for that kind of stuff," Baker said.  "But the dog, that's irreplaceable. Hopefully, if they decide to keep it or someone finds it, they're nice to the dog. Feed him, take care of him and make the rest of his days as good as possible, or as good as I would've made them for him."
