Man tried to kidnap girl outside Sharpstown library, police say

HOUSTON – A man was arrested last week after he tried to kidnap a girl in front of a library in Houston’s Sharpstown neighborhood, police said.

Oscar Santay, 30, was charged with attempted kidnapping and terroristic threat in connection with the Oct. 8 incident outside the Walter Neighborhood Library at Clarewood Drive and Fondren Road.

Houston police said a 13-year-old girl was standing outside the library when Santay grabbed her and tried to drag her away. Santay threatened to kill the girl if she screamed, police said.

The girl was able to escape Santay and ran away, police said.

Santay was arrested on Thursday, police said.
