Man tied up, robbed at gunpoint

HOUSTON - One man has been charged and another is on the run after police said they robbed a man at gunpoint. 

Official said the armed robbery occurred on Sunday at an apartment complex in the 7300 block of Arnim in southeast Houston.

Investigators said the 37-year-old victim had just returned from church when he was approached by the two men, who then forced him into his apartment at gunpoint.

Houston police said the robbers then tied up the victim and put him in a closet while they ransacked his apartment. The victim was eventually able to break free of his restraints and was able to flag down an officer who was in the area patrolling.

Police spotted one of the suspects driving the victim's vehicle. Officers tried to stop that man's vehicle, but he eventually got out and started running. Police chased the suspect, who was carrying a gun. Officers said the suspect fired a shot in their direction. That's when Officer A. Garza fired his weapon at the suspect.

Police said the suspect was eventually found by a K9 unit. The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Deshawn Eugen Mayers,was taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. 

Houston police said the second suspect is still on run. He's described as a black man who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall.
