Jealous ex-boyfriend police say shot, killed woman's new boyfriend out on bond

Suspected shooter ordered to stay away from ex

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend is out of jail on bond.

Austin Huff went before a judge Wednesday after police say he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend Monday in the front yard of a northwest Harris County home.

The Harris County Sheriff's Department was called around 11:30 p.m. to the 9500 block of Dalmally for reports of the shooting.

According to deputies, a woman's ex-boyfriend, Austin Huff, showed up at her home while her new boyfriend was there. Huff and the new boyfriend got into an argument and Huff shot him, investigators said.

The woman, Kristine Jennings, and Huff had been in a relationship until three months ago, when Jennings ended things, deputies said. Sometime after the break up, Jennings began dating the victim, according to deputies.

Deputies said Huff was trying to convince Jennings to return to Austin with him. Jennings refused and the victim tried to enter the home after telling Huff to leave, deputies said. According to investigators, Huff tried to follow the couple into the house and the victim tried to push Huff out. The two began to fight on the front porch when Huff shot the victim at least once in the chest, killing him.

Huff was taken into custody at his parents' house and charged with murder.

Deputies said the three have a long history and have known one another since middle school.

Jennings was not hurt in the altercation, deputies said.

A judge ordered that he have no contact with his Jennings' family and that he stay 200 feet away from her home.
