Man wanted on murder charge for League City shooting detained at border checkpoint

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – Sayantan Ghose was detained at a border checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico on Thursday.

Ghose was wanted on a murder warrant after a man was killed Wednesday and a woman was injured in a shooting outside a League City home, according to police.

The shooting was reported about 9 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of Mayhill Ridge Lane during an argument between Ghose and two residents, police said.

According to League City police, officers found the body of 43-year-old Clarence Wayne Harris II, who had been shot several times, lying in the driveway in front of the house. Police said Amanda Harris, 36, was also found suffering from a gunshot wound, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said Ghose, 41, of Sugar Land, was identified as the suspect.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified or speak to KPRC2 on camera said there were several children present at the time of the shooting.

Ghose's bond is set at $150,000.
