The Gulf freeway was shut down for many hours Friday night due to a deadly auto-pedestrian accident, according to police.
A man in his 30s or 40s attempted to cross the Gulf freeway around 9 p.m. Friday, however, he misjudged the cars' distance,according to authorities.
A person driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee could not avoid hitting the man crossing the highway even after swerving; a person driving an SUV also could not see the man or what happened and ran him over, police said.
Both drivers stopped and talked to police; no alcohol was involved with either accident, according to authorities.
Police said the man died at the scene.
