Husband arrested after shooting wife in front of children, police say

3 children were home at the time of the shooting

HARRIS – A man who police say shot his wife in the forehead last week has been arrested.

Carlos Garcia, 36, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member. He was arrested Thursday.

Police said multiple rounds were fired inside a home in northeast Harris County on Nov. 24 after a domestic disturbance.

Dora Soto heard nothing as she slept through the night.

"My daughter called me, and she said, 'Mom, your house is on the news,' and I said, 'What do you mean?' and she said, 'Your neighbor got shot,'" Soto said.

Officers said Garcia and his wife got into an argument, and he pulled out a gun, shooting the wife once in the head, with three kids -- a 4, 8 and 17-year-old -- still inside the home, according to officers.

"It's heartbreaking, and they're so young," Soto said.

The eldest child called the police. Police say that Garcia then took off with the gun.

"I believe this is going to be an isolated incident - it's a family violence situation. I don't think the residents of Harris County and Aldine area should be concerned for their safety," HCSO Sgt. M. Alvarado said.

The wife was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition.

"When I found out she was going to be OK, I thanked the Lord she's OK," Soto said.

Neighbors are stunned.

"They would come over all of the time. Very friendly, very friendly," neighbor Michael Bouck said.

Previous records show Garcia was also arrested in 2007 for assault on a family member and again in 2013 for DWI.
