Man may be using master key to steal cash from ATMs, deputies say

KATY, Texas – A man may be using a master key to steal money from several ATMs in Harris County, according to deputies.

The latest theft was reported about 1:30 a.m. at a Bank of America near the intersection Fry Road and Katy Freeway.

Harris County deputies said they received a call from a security company about a possible ATM burglary.

The arriving deputy spotted a man sitting in a car in the ATM lane and blocked the vehicle, deputies said.

The man inside jumped out and ran away, leaving money and a cellphone in the car, deputies said.

Officials said they searched the area, but were unable to find the man.

Investigators said they believe the same man has broken into several ATMs during the last couple of days, stealing thousands of dollars.
