TEXAS CITY, Texas - Police are investigating after a man last seen wade fishing was found dead in the water near the Texas City Dike.

At around 10:30 a.m. Monday, Texas City police say they received a call about a body in the water, approximately a mile north of the dike. An off-duty Galveston County Beach Patrol Deputy on a jet ski saw the body, then pulled the man to shore.

According to police, witnesses identified the man as Curtis Ivory Ward Jr. They say Ward was wade fishing on Mosquito Island when he walked several yards out in the water, then disappeared.

Ward, 59, may have had two other people with him fishing at some point prior to his drowning, police say.

The Coast Guard was called out to search the area, but no other individuals were found. Police say all indications are that Ward, who's from Houston, was the sole victim.
