Man killed, HPD officer injured in hit-and-run in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – A man was killed in a hit-and-run involving a Houston police officer Wednesday in southwest Houston.

Police said the officer was driving along Highway 288 on her way to an assignment at Ben Taub Hospital when the man ran across the freeway and she hit him.

The crash caused the driver’s side mirror to break and glass hit the officer’s eye, police said.

A second driver hit the man and did not stop, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Anyone with information about the second vehicle that hit the man is asked to contact Houston police.
