Man in police custody dies after officers shocked him with a Taser

HOUSTON - A man who officers shocked with a Taser has died in the hospital.

According to investigators, officers were called out to a to a suspicious person call at a home on Kingflower Circle near Kingspoint Road about 1:30 a.m. on September 28.

When officers arrived, investigators said Manuel Baltazar, 20, was irate and screaming loudly in the middle of the street.

Baltazar became more agitated and combative, swinging at and striking the officers, HPD said.

Officers then shocked Baltazar with a Taser more than once until he could be taken into custody.

When HFD paramedics arrived, Baltazar began having seizures, police said.

Baltazar was transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in critical condition.

Doctors pronounced him dead on October 10.

HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions are now conducting an investigation.
