Man hospitalized after being shot in Fort Bend County grocery store parking lot

Gunman sought after shooting person in abdomen in parking lot

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas - A man was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot in a grocery store parking lot in Fort Bend County, deputies said.

The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the grocery store's parking lot at 6711 S. Fry Road.

A couple of guys met in the parking lot and had an altercation, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the suspect got into the victim's parked car and shot him once in the abdomen. The victim, believed to be in his early 20s, was taken to a local hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery. His condition was unknown Wednesday evening.

The gunman was described by deputies as a black man who is 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. A description of his vehicle was not provided but detectives said they do have a few leads.

Deputies said they don't believe robbery is a motive because the victim's wallet wasn't missing. But they said they still have to interview the victim to get more details.
