HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A man was found not guilty last month in a murder case involving his step-brother in 2013.

On Oct. 20, 2013, investigators said Carl Beard, 26, got into a fight with his girlfriend outside his step-brother's home on Rambling Brook in north Harris County.

Deputies said the girlfriend came into the home crying after the fight, so the homeowner went outside to confront Beard. The two men then began fighting.

Witnesses said the homeowner, John Clyde Lancey, 32, came back into the home to get a gun from the safe.

Investigators said Lancey then took the gun back outside and told Beard to leave.

When he refused, deputies said Lancey shot Beard in the chest, killing him.

After a trial lasting three days, a jury returned a not guilty verdict on Sept. 23.
