Man dies after fight at Houston night club

HOUSTON – Weeks after a man died following a night out at a Houston club, his family is looking for answers.

On Feb. 17, police said Jason Jefferson went to Rich's Night Club with a friend to celebrate his upcoming 40th birthday.

"Somebody came inside and told him that his car was going to be towed," Jefferson's sister, Kassie Franklin said. "My brother stayed at the door while his friend moved the car. They attempted to go back in, but they didn't let him back in.

Franklin said the bouncer at the club demanded Jefferson and his friend pay a $25 cover again, if they wanted to be let back into the club. His friend said the bouncer beat him over the head with a "chain rope" used to block the entrance.

Moments later, Jefferson's friends called his family and told them he was being rushed to the hospital.

The bouncer tells a different story. In the police report, the bouncer said he did punch Jefferson, but only after he acted as if "he was going for a weapon."

Kassie Franklin doesn't buy this explanation.

"What's on the police report [doesn't] match what the doctors are saying," she said.

She said she and her family are just looking for answers to help them gain some peace of mind.

"He suffered a lot and we just want to get some kind of justice for him, and for our family."
