Man crashes stolen truck in garage during chase, steals SUV, arrested after 2nd chase, deputies say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man is in custody after a police chase in northwest Harris County on Wednesday.

Around 3:05 p.m., a Harris County deputy spotted a truck that was reported stolen on Tuesday, authorities said.

When the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the truck sped away, according to authorities.

The deputy fell behind during the pursuit when he got caught at a red light. The deputy continued the pursuit to the last point he saw the truck. When he made the turn where he saw the truck turn, several people were standing outside pointing at a residence in the 15600 block of Pebble Lake Drive. The truck had crashed into a garage, pushing a parked car through the garage wall, according to authorities.

The truck damaged both vehicles in the garage and caught on fire. The Cy-Fair Fire Department was able to put the fire out before it spread to the house. No one was injured at the scene.

Deputies said the man driving the truck fled the crash scene on foot to a nearby residence in the 8600 block of Sunny Ridge, where he stole a second vehicle, a red Toyota Rav-4, authorities said.

The resident immediately reported the vehicle stolen and authorities were able to locate it nearby.

Another pursuit ended in the 16300 block of Lasting Light Lane, where the man driving the stolen vehicle rammed the front of a deputy's patrol vehicle, authorities said.

The man was taken into custody after hitting the deputy's vehicle.

That deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

Khan Ghori and his family were watching TV around 3 p.m. Wednesday when the truck came smashing through their garage.

A shot from surveillance video shows the truck barreling across a neighbor's yard before it hits the Ghori home. The Ghoris say it sounded like an explosion.

"I just came outside so I saw the car inside my garage," recalls Khan Ghori. "A truck. And my car outside, the other side."

The man ended up smashing into the garage and pushing one of the cars through a wall.

"I thought that everyone was very fortunate to have their lives," says neighbor Sandy Polanis. "It's unfortunate there was structural damage but fortunately we have our lives."
