Man, child killed in head-on crash in southeast Houston

HOUSTON – A man and a child were killed Sunday morning in a head-on crash in southeast Houston.

The crash was reported around 2 a.m. on Almeda Genoa Road at Pembroke Street.

Officials said the driver of a gray Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling westbound on Almeda Genoa when he saw a black Hyundai Accent coming into his lane toward him. Officials said the truck driver attempted to flash his lights, but the car continued toward him and crashed head-on.

Officials said there was a 28-year-old male driver in the car and a child, 10, in the back seat of the vehicle. Both child and man died at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital, officials said.

The Houston Police Department is investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

No identities have been released.
