Man Charged In Missing Teen's Death

Richard Mendoza Accused Of Killing Christopher Daigle

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas - A man has been charged in the suspected death of a teenager who has been missing since 2002.

Richard Mendoza, 26, has been charged with murder.

Christopher Allen Daigle disappeared in 2002. He was 17 at the time.

"It's a long time not knowing how it happened or why it happened," said Tracie Gregory, Daigle's mother.

Missouri City police have been investigating the case since Daigle disappeared. The said the case had gone cold. Daigle's grandmother, Wanda Gregory, said the lead detective retired.

About six weeks ago, Daigle's ailing grandmother walked into the Missouri City Police Department and told the new detectives that she wanted closure before something happens to her.

"He promised they'd work on and find something," Wanda Gregory said. "He did. They did."

Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies and Missouri City police searched a rural area along F.M. 521 between Arcola and Juliff Wednesday through Friday.

Deputies said they believe Daigle was shot to death in the area and his body was left there.

Investigators collected bones, which were studied by an anthropologist at Sam Houston State University. Two of the bones were determined to be human, officials said.

The bones have not yet been identified, but DNA testing is under way, detectives said.

Daigle and Mendoza knew each other since they were children. Daigle's family said the two played baseball together since they were 5.

"I went to school with his aunt. My mom went to school with his grandmother," said Tracie Gregory.

Wanda Gregory said she had a candle lit in her home for nine years, but she's ready to put it out. Tracie Gregory said she has made a vow to her son.

"I'm going to make a promise to him that we will fight this until we get justice and Ricky gets what he deserves," she said.

Mendoza is being held in the Fort Bend County Jail with bond set at $250,000.
