GALVESTON - A man is recovering from his injuries after he was run over by a golf cart.

Galveston police said it happened around 11 p.m. Sunday in the 23000 block of the beach.

Officials said the victim, Dwayne Sheets, had been sitting in a chair at the edge of the water when he was hit by the golf cart.

Authorities said the golf cart did not have its headlights on.

Police said Stanley Allen was driving the golf cart. Allen said his headlights had gone out and he didn't see Sheets sitting in the chair.

Sheets was transported to UTMB for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Allen was also taken to the hospital for a mandatory blood draw. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and bond was set at $5,000.
