Man arrested in Baytown murders apologizes to families, says he is innocent

BAYTOWN, Texas – Under heavy security from officers from the Baytown Police Department and the Chambers County Sheriff's Office, Jose Juan Chavez was walked into Judge Larry Cryer's office Wednesday.

Cryer is the Justice of the Peace in Chambers County Precinct 6.

As Chavez entered the building he said "sorry" to the families but said he was innocent.

Out of the view of cameras, the judge said he read Chavez his rights since he was arrested in Harris County but faced a capital murder charge in Chambers County. He is the fourth person to be charged in the murders of two Baytown teenagers.

Baytown Police said Jose Chavez was one of the last people to see 17-year-old Jarvis Morgan and 18-year-old Alex Chavez alive. A SWAT team arrested Jose Chavez at an apartment complex on Massey Tompkins Road Tuesday as police said they found out he was getting ready to run.

KPRC 2 asked, "Are you innocent?"  Chavez replied, "Yes sir."  KPRC 2 asked "Are you guilty?"  Chavez replied, "No sir."

Morgan and Jarvis' bodies were found in a bayou in Chambers County more than two weeks after the two teens disappeared. Investigators believe they were kidnapped in Baytown and taken to Chambers County where they were killed.  Police are still trying to find Brandon Flores.  He was the first charged with capital murder in this case.
