HOUSTON - A man was in custody Wednesday after a slow-speed chase that made its way across Houston.

It started around 1:30 a.m. on the Southwest Freeway, where a 911 caller reported a Ford Taurus driving on four flat tires. Officers caught up to him and tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver wouldn't stop. He got on the West Loop and then on Highway 290.

Officers said the man was driving 40 mph, but then the man's car lost its front left rim and the man was driving on the brake cylinder. He finally stopped on the freeway near 43rd street.

Police said the man failed a field sobriety test because he was highly intoxicated.

They said the man thought his friends were driving him home, and didn't even realize he was driving.
