Man accused of using Houston as hub to distribute drugs to 5 major US cities

An accused drug trafficker was arrested in Houston on Aug. 24 while in possession of approximately 6 kilograms of powder cocaine.

A Drug Enforcement Agency investigation revealed that Juan Jose Arellano-Velazquez was trafficking multikilogram amounts of heroin, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine to at least five major cities in the United States while using Houston as a distribution hub.

The investigation showed that Arellano-Velazquez was using young adults to receive, traffic, distribute and collect drug proceeds.

On the day he was arrested, DEA agents followed Arellano-Velazquez from his home in east Houston to the southwest side of town. He was observed in a drug transaction with several other people, according to the investigation.

Arellano-Velazquez was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute.

Arellano-Velazquez was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to 60 years in prison.
