HOUSTON – A man accused of striking a woman with his pickup truck has been charged, Houston police said.
The incident happened around noon on Oct. 9 at 2400 Fulton St.
A man was driving a pickup truck south on Fulton Street near the 610 North Loop, according to witnesses. Police said a woman was crossing the street along the Metro rail tracks when the man drove over the speed bumps, made a U-turn and ran directly into her. She was knocked unconscious.
The man attempted to leave, but witnesses followed him until he went back to the woman to check on her. Police said that as he loaded the woman into his truck, the man told witnesses the woman was his wife and he was taking her to Ben Taub General Hospital.
Investigators on Thursday released surveillance photos of the man, who has been identified by police as Thomas Arrington, 54, and his truck -- an older model turquoise Ford F-150. Police said a tip was received on Arrington's whereabouts, and he was taken into custody for questioning.
Arrington admitted to his role in the crash and said the victim was his girlfriend, police said. Officers located the 48-year-old victim, who said she received numerous stitches for a head injury.
The woman stated that she and Arrington got into an argument and she got out of the truck. Police said Arrington then struck her as she walked on the rail tracks. The victim confirmed Arrington took her to the hospital.
Police said the woman, who suffered severe head trauma, is expected to recover.
Arrington has been charged n the 185th State District Court with aggravated assault of a family member, police said.
