Man accused of robbing, carjacking taxi driver

HOUSTON – A taxi driver fled his car Saturday in fear for his life after a passenger threatened him with a gun, deputy constables said.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said his deputies responded to a report of a carjacking and robbery in the 9000 block of Good Meadow Drive, where a taxi driver was dispatched to the area to pick up a fare.

According to officials, a man who got into the back seat of the taxicab and said he had a gun and was going to rob the driver. That is when the driver got out of the taxi and ran away. They said the man then entered the driver’s seat and drove off in the taxi.

Deputies said they used a GPS device to track down the taxi at a Whataburger in the 12600 block of Veterans Memorial Drive. They said they found Frank Fletcher sitting in the driver's seat.

Fletcher was charged with robbery and was being held in jail on a $10,000 bond.
