HOUSTON - Getting out of the Pearland area on Highway 288 was harder than usual Tuesday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., four cars and an 18-wheeler were involved in a major wreck near the Almeda-Genoa exit.

One of the cars flipped in the median, and the big rig suffered minor damage.

For hours traffic could only get through on the right shoulder of the highway, backing up traffic for several miles.

Police have not said who was at fault or how badly the people involved were injured.
