Lowes parking lot shooting leads to chase in Conroe, police say

CONROE, Texas – A police officer and an off-duty Harris County deputy fired shots at two suspects who tried to get away in a stolen vehicle in Conroe.

Conroe police said an officer was responding to reports of a stolen vehicle at 10:20 a.m. at a Lowes parking lot in the 1900 block of Westview Boulevard.

Police said when officers arrived, the two suspects attempted to flee in the vehicle. Police said the suspect purposely rammed into four parked vehicles, one of which was occupied by a person, while trying to flee from officers. One of the cars belonged to Gloria Sizemore.

"They pulled in behind me and I think they just rammed my vehicle forward," said Sizemore, who drove from to Conroe from Huntsville.

Police said a Conroe police officer fired his gun to protect himself and others in the area. Police said the off-duty deputy assisted the officer and fired one round, which struck the driver in the stolen vehicle.

All of this was happening while Rachel Kiely was driving into Lowe's with her 1-year-old son, 3-year-old daughter and mother.

"When I was going to the back seat, I didn't know if I was going to look at my 1-year-old son with a bullet hole in him somewhere," Kiely said.

Kiely said she checked her back seat.

"It was a matter of 45 seconds. If I had not moved, I'm pretty sure my son would've been hit," Kiely said.

The suspects fled the scene, leading police on a chase for several miles on Interstate 45 before the vehicle gave out, officials said. Both suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but were later caught, officials said.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was a juvenile who was wanted on several other charges. Police said the juvenile was treated at Conroe ER and taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. Police said the juvenile will face multiple charges.

Police said the passenger in the stolen vehicle, Noah Dennis, 17, of Corpus Christi, was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest on foot.

He was taken to the Montgomery County Jail.

Meanwhile, four vehicles sat at the Lowe's parking lot for hours as police investigated the area. Many shoppers were counting their blessings.

"By the grace of God, (my son) was OK," Kiely said.
