Logo revealed for 2020 U.S. Women's Open golf championship to be held in Houston

HOUSTON – The Harris County Houston Sports Authority, along with the United States Golf Association, proudly unveiled the logo for the 2020 U.S. Women’s Open, set to be held at Champions Golf Club.

It will be the 75th annual U.S. Open, and it’s one of 14 championships, including four Open championships, conducted annually by the USGA.

"It is the most-watched women's event in the world, besides the women's World Cup," Houston Sports Authority CEO Janis Burke said. "We are thrilled to be a part of the great history of this event."

The 2020 U.S. Women’s Open will be the 31st USGA championship in Texas. Most recently, Champions Golf Club hosted the 2017 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, won by Kelsey Chugg. Colonial Country Club, in Fort Worth, hosted the only other U.S. Women’s Open in Texas.

“The U.S. Women’s Open is our most prominent women’s championship,” United States Golf Association Director of Championships Matt Sawicki said. “It’s coming here because Champions Golf Club provides the ultimate test.”

“It’s in a rare group of 10 clubs that have hosted a U.S. Open, a U.S. Amateur and, upcoming, a U.S. Women’s Open,” Sawicki added.

It is open to professional female golfers and amateur females with a handicap index not exceeding 2.4. The championship was first conducted in 1946, and its winners include some of golf’s most decorated champions, among them Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Hollis Stacy, Amy Alcott, Meg Mallon, Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak, Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Inbee Park and Michelle Wie.
