THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A jewelry heist in Montgomery County sounds like it was ripped from a Hollywood movie script.
Investigators are searching for a thief who stole up to $1 million worth of designer handbags and jewelry from a woman's closet in The Woodlands that recently got international attention.
The closet is three stories and 3,000 square feet.
"This is the stuff you see in the movies. You never think it would happen to you," owner Theresa Roemer said.
Roemer said she came home Friday night from a nearby country club to find someone had gone through her closet, filling up dozens of very valuable Berkin bags with watches and jewelry.
"$80,000 rings, $150,000 watches," said Roemer.
She estimates the thief got away with between $800,000 to $1 million worth of items.
"It's not the fact he stole all of this. This is just material stuff. I don't even care about it, but to break into someone's home and invade their privacy, you just feel so violated," Roemer said.
The thief used a glass cutter to break into a bathroom window and managed to avoid detection in every camera outside of the home.
Surveillance cameras in the closet show he was there for 40 minutes. The crook was covered head to toe and didn't leave any fingerprints.
Roemer said footage also shows that the thief made several trips in and out of the closet but never went to the second or third floor where she keeps her shoes and furs.
Roemer is an entrepreneur and philanthropist. She said she built the closet to host fundraisers.
