2 killed in wrong-way crash on North Freeway

Interstate 45 reopens at 9:30 a.m.

CONROE, Texas – Two people died in a wrong-way crash in Montgomery County that shut down part of the North Freeway for hours.

Authorities said Nicole Nadra Baukus, 23, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling the wrong way and hit a Chevrolet Aveo head-on along the North Freeway at near Highway 242 at 3 a.m.

Two people in the car that was hit died in the crash. They were identified as Nicole Adams, 19, and Travis Saunders, 18.

Baukus and David Porras, a passenger in the front seat of the Aveo, were injured. Investigators said they were transported to a hospital, but their conditions were not released.

The crash shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 between FM 1488 and SH 242. Traffic was diverted to the feeder road. The area was cleared at 9:30 a.m.

Deputies said Baukus was two charges of intoxication manslaughter and one charge of intoxication assault.
