Escapees from Liberty County Jail captured in San Jacinto County, deputies say

LIBERTY, Texas – Two men who authorities said escaped from the Liberty County Jail have been captured in San Jacinto County Tuesday, officials said.

Chance Marshall Hunt, 27, and Clay Sterling Harvey, 44, escaped from the jail between 4 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. and later found at 3:30 p.m., deputies said.

Chance Hunt (left) and Clay Harvey (right) are seen in mug shots released by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 20, 2019.

Hunt is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to Capt. Ken DeFoor, with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

Harvey is charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance, DeFoor said.

DeFoor said authorities found a cut in the fence along one side of the jail. Officials believe the two men had outside help. Liberty County Sheriff's department said the two men knew each other but they were not inmates.

Texas Rangers assisted the Sheriff's Office in the search for the men.

Authorities said the men are considered dangerous.
