Boy, 4, drowns in Liberty County pond

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – Officials said a 4-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Liberty County Monday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said deputies received a call from a grandmother around 12:30 p.m. to report that her grandson was missing from a residence in the 4500 block of Private Road 4501.

The grandmother, who is wheel chair bound, said the boy had been missing for 15 minutes before she called 911.

An additional 911 call was by another caller who lived nearby reporting that a baby had been found in a pond.

Deputies responded to the pond, located near Indigo Road and PR 4501.

Upon their arrival, they found the boy's father standing on the shore pointing to where his son was in the water.

Two sergeants dove into the water and swam out to the child.

Once at the shore, they started performing CPR on the boy. Paramedics soon arrived, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said it is possible the child was in the water for 30-40 minutes before he was found.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is investigating the drowning.
