HOUSTON – While the gunman charged in their murders is still at large, Harris County deputies have released the names of the three victims who died in Wednesday's apartment shooting in northwest Harris County.
Seventeen-year-old Daniel Munoz, 17-year-old Veronica Hernandez and 22-year-old Yosseln Alfaro were killed during the shooting at the Peppermill Place Apartments.
"We forgive you for what you did. It hurts so bad but we forgive you for what you did," said Viri Ortega, a cousin of Munoz. "We're just sad that he was taken from us so quickly. And we didn't have the proper goodbye or enough time with him. It's just sad that it had to come to this. He didn't deserve to die this way. Nobody did."
On Thursday, the Harris County Sheriff's Office also identified the gunman who opened fire on the victims, including two others who were critically injured.
"It's just not fair," said Ortega. "He didn't even get an opportunity to live his life yet so. We just....tell your loved ones every night that you love them because you never know if this is going to be the last time if you see them or not. I never pictured in a million years that this would be the last time I would be talking about my little cousin."
The sheriff's office says Johnathan Sanchez, 25, is charged with capital murder. He's also known as "J Boi." He's not yet in custody.
A resident at the apartment complex, Ashley Baca, said she saw Sanchez at the complex on Wednesday.
"It was just a shock feeling. It took my breath away," said Baca. "I was like 'Oh my God.' I knew his description this whole time. But I didn't click to me because there were so many people going back and forth. I didn't know if I had seen him or not."
Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said his investigators are gathering more information and working on the case.
"Drugs, guns and bad company I guess is all part of the equation,"Garcia said.
Court records show Sanchez has been in trouble before. He spent three years in state prison for carrying a handgun into a place that sold alcohol.
Records also show he was convicted of aggravated robbery when he was a minor.
Sanchez is still at large and deputies say he may be armed and extremely dangerous.
Anyone with information about Sanchez's location should immediately call the HCSO's Homicide Unit at 713-967-5810, Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, or submit a tip online.
