Surveillance video released of suspects in pastor killing

HOUSTON – Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed a beloved pastor in northwest Harris County.

Harris County sheriff's deputies responded to a "man down" call at the Mariposa Apartments in the 16300 block of Ella Blvd around 6:45 a.m. on May 3.
When they arrived, they found Pastor Magnus Scott Hjalmarson dead from what appeared to be blunt force trauma. An autopsy later revealed he had been shot in the head.

Hjalmarson was a minister of CARES, a Christian organization. He was gathering items for a community-wide garage sale he and his wife had organized through the ministry when he was shot.

His death left many in the community stunned, and detectives searching for answers.

Surveillance video showed a black Dodge Ram pick-up, which had been stolen just prior to the murder from a different location, parked nearby at the time of the shooting. Video showed three young men walking away from the stolen truck shortly after the murder.

One suspect is seen holding a tan straw cowboy hat that had been taken out of the stolen truck. The video shows the suspects walking through a neighborhood toward West Montgomery near the Garden City Apartments in Acres Homes.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Any information leading to the arrest of a suspect can earn a reward of up to $5,000. All tipsters remain anonymous.
