Residents on edge after multiple carjackings in NW Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A dangerous group of carjackers just became more violent after a 63-year-old man was shot several times. The criminals are still out there.

Richard Stephens lives in the same neighborhood where a man was shot and carjacked in northwest Harris County.

"He is the neighborhood guy you would always see in the neighborhood with a smile on his face. He's always got a story to tell and he's always helping people out," said Stephens.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables say Ed Turner had just pulled into his driveway on Sarti near Theall and saw two guys standing near the side of his house. Deputy constables say the suspects stole Turner's keys and then opened fire.

"The victim was shot four times, once in the abs, once in the leg and twice in both arms," said Woody Mitchell, with Precinct 4.

The shooting happened at around 6 p.m. Monday. Then about three hours later, a pizza delivery man was carjacked at gun point at an apartment complex near Wunderlich and FM 1960. The delivery drive was not shot, but his car was stolen.

Investigators say over the past 30 days, there have been about a half-dozen carjackings near I-45 and Airtex in the northwest part of the county and it's believed the suspects involved in Monday night's attacks may be connected to all of them.

People who live in the neighborhood are just hoping the carjackers are caught before someone else gets hurt.

"We need to get rid of these bad elements. What do we have to do? Step up security, step up police, start figuring out what we need to do," said Stephens.

The suspects are described as two black men. One of the men may have dreadlocks and was wearing a bandana, according to officials. There was no clothing description available at this time.
